Meet Mia, an abused, neglected Weimaraner fighting for her life. Mia turned up at Big Dog Ranch Rescue, a remarkable dog rescue in Southern Florida, on April 23rd.

Mia, a full grown three year old Weimaraner, curls up in a corner of the shelter, to weak and scared to move. A full grown Weimaraner should weigh in around 70 pounds, Mia arrived at the shelter emaciated, dehydrated and weighing only 36 pounds.
“She is now safe with Big Dog Ranch Rescue and we will do everything within our power to get her well. Despite everything she has been through, she has somehow found a way to be the sweetest girl imaginable. How she could ever forgive humanity who inflicted such suffering on her is absolutely beyond us.” Big Dog Ranch Facebook Page
Many are outraged over the neglect Mia had received before arriving to the shelter; she is infested with every parasite conceivable, has infections in her eyes and ears, tumors on her neck, and she can barely stomach more than tiny meals a few times a day due to her stomach being so small.
Thankfully her surrender to Big Dog Ranch has led to her being cared for by veterinarian Dr. Susan Baker, and her care began with IV fluids and warming blankets raise her body temperature. Through her medical journal, over time Mia’s health will continue to improve.
“She is very sad and trying so hard to find the trust to love a person. Oftentimes she is still curling up into a ball and trying to disappear. Her coat is matted and filthy. We are hopeful she will be feeling well enough a little later today for a soothing bath where she will experience for probably the first time in her life the gentle touch of loving hands. We are doing all we can for her.” According to Big Dog Ranch’s Facebook post.
There are no answers as to why someone would leave a dog so weak, and dehydrated that she is scared to move and lives her life huddled in a ball trying to remain invisible. Step by step the shelter will hopefully coax her out of her shell so she will one day trust again, and teach her that her life is worth living, that she is now safe.

“That’s how we’ll heal our Mia. Step by step by step. We’ll be right there with her, encouraging her and reassuring her that she is safe. That she is loved. She just loves her big soft bed and we’re hopeful she’ll feel safe enough to uncurl from that ball in which she lives.” Big Dog Ranch Facebook Page
